Jessica Biel: Audiences Won't Get Nailed Any Time Soon

biel_nailed.jpgMovieline is now taking wagers on which troubled, star-studded, highly anticipated indie film will be the first to reach audiences: Kenneth Lonergan’s triaged mess Margaret, or David O. Russell’s Nailed, which, according to star Jessica Biel (among others), isn’t even close to done.

Nailed tumbled into infamy last year when Russell clashed separately with James Caan and Jake Gyllenhaal before the production ran out of money altogether. Four times. But filming resumed after a few jump starts, and all seemed well with the world. Until today, alas, when Biel told the Orlando Sentinel that the film remains incomplete. “For all that,” she said, “I’m devastated that it’s not finished and who knows when it will be and will come out. I still have my fingers crossed that something good will come of it, that it will be finished.”

And by “not finished,” Biel really means “not finished.” At least according to The Playlist, whose own source clarified that Nailed is “missing key scenes and has been basically abandoned by the principal post-production players.” (Russell himself has since been attached to at least three new projects since his Nailed travails.)

So! Now’s your chance to vote for which crabby auteur’s lost masterpiece will be the first to emerge in theaters. I’ll cast the first vote for Margaret, if only because, well, it’s actually been filmed. But never underestimate Russell, who’s been known to cast himself and shoot on the cheap when the going gets tough.
