Star Trek's Debt to Star Wars Now a 30-Second Video

trek_wars.jpgIt’s not exactly news (or a spoiler) that the new Star Trek and original Star Wars share uncannily similar narrative and thematic arcs. But there’s something to be said for the person who went to the trouble of diagramming those arcs in one convenient video after the jump (Warning! The footage does include spoilers.)

High-five to College Humor, which made the most of somehow getting its hands on a copy of Trek — and this doesn’t even include Kirk’s time spent marooned on the Wars-esque ice planet Delta Vega. While I’m not convinced George Lucas should sue just yet, he should no doubt keep a close eye on the developing sequel; the minute Spock is frozen in carbon instead of shot into space at the end, it might be time to call out the lawyers.

Well, technically Luke and Han Solo never hated each other, but still, their point is made.

Hmm, akin to the correlation between Forrest Gump and Benjamin Button. Hollywood's just becoming more entropic.
