World's Strangest Trailer Finally Yields World's Strangest Film

after_opens.jpgAfter Last Season had the distinction of being the very first subject of Movieline’s Two-Minute Verdict feature, in which we fell for the crude sets, shoddy camerawork and its baffling non sequiturs. And while many observers wondered aloud if this wasn’t just some mysterious prank in search of a feature-length treatment, we circled June 5 on the kitchen calendar, knowing that the film might soon fulfill its maddening promise. Now that day is here, and so is After the Season — though you might have to do some traveling to have a look for yourself.

I’m counting on readers in Austin, Rochester, Lancaster, Calif., and North Aurora, Ill., to add this to your weekend moviegoing plans. I’ll even reimburse the ticket price for the first person to send a citizen review of the thing; all we have to go on currently is this equally unusual assessment from Film Monthly:

After Last Season is a different type of film. The psycho-thriller blends science fiction, mystery and murder, with a lot of psychological twists thrown in.

I don’t really know what it is, whether it’s the way it was filmed or the way scenes and situations are played out, but the movie as a whole is so entrancing. […]

Mysterious things begin to happen, such as a chair coming to life and wreaking havoc on the room. Sometimes the events in the movie seem pretty outlandish, but I tried to view them within the scope of the film’s novelty—that being in the way the film was produced.

Seriously — The Hangover can wait. Get thee to North Aurora.

Judging by the womens' hair, this is obviously the work of a cult.

We need to do a full-on sociological study of these wackadoos.

The term WTF?? doesn't even come close to describing my response. I must either know more, or very much less. I can't decide which.

My brain hurts.

But I was thinking of a flower!
