· The sex-change process can take almost as long as development hell on many films, and finally, Nicole Kidman’s The Danish Girl is bringing the two phenomena together in a staggering show of inertia. Charlize Theron has left the project, in which she was attached to co-star as the wife of the world’s first male-to-female sex-change patient (played by Kidman). In better news, Let the Right One In director Tomas Alfredson is set to direct. Theron’s coveted role goes back up for grabs effective immediately. I know it sounds crazy, but, well… enh, never mind. · Ed Harris will replace Liam Neeson in What’s Wrong With Virginia?, the directing debut of Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. We’ve been through this before, but just for a refresher: The actor will play a sheriff whose political future is threatened “when his daughter begins to date the son of a psychologically disturbed woman with whom the sheriff has engaged in a two-decade affair.” Riiiiight, that one. Emma Roberts signed on as well to play the daughter. [Variety]
· Helen Hunt is mulling over a return to NBC to take over for the ailing Maura Tierney in Parenthood. She would play the eldest sibling of four, assuming the role Dianne Wiest played in Ron Howard’s original film 20 years ago. [THR]
· TIA CARRERE ALERT! She will star and produce Wave Dancer, Martha Coolidge’s biopic about the surfing great Rell Sunn. END OF ALERT. [THR]
· It’s official: Peter Berg is directing the film adaptation of Battleship, due out July 2011 from Universal.
