Renée Zellweger, Bradley Cooper's Case 39 Finally Coming Off Paramount's Shelf

case_39_top.jpgFunny: We were just talking yesterday about how director Christian Alvart’s Pandorum and Case 39 might make for a great double feature of Bad Movies We Love — if, that is, the latter film ever found its way off the Paramount shelf where it’s rested for more than three years. Then, no sooner had we looked back on a year of high-profile dumpings then the ‘Mount gave us our first burial of 2010: Case 39! Small world!

The studio on Wednesday announced that the Renée Zellweger thriller — which was shot way back in 2006 — would open Jan. 1, 2010 in the US (it’s already trickled out here and there internationally). The film has been idling in the closet long enough now that co-star Bradley Cooper can possibly supply a little more cachet than original male lead Ian McShane; the story concerns a social worker (Zellweger) whose attempt to save a young girl from abusive parents turns into a psychological horror show. Hats off to the studio for finally finding an angle to deliver this one’s underwhelming promise, and many thanks in advance for the scathing-review fodder that Movieline readers enjoy so much. Can’t. Wait.
