2012
Truth be told, if the 2012 trailer were real and the roads of Southern California were actually crumbling around us like a piece of stale coffee cake, there’s no one we’d rather have soothe us with some Zeppelin lullabies as we clung to the spire of the splintering Capitol Records building than American Idol runner-up and My Favorite Scene participant, Adam Lambert.
(He’s pictured above, in a shockingly heterosexist Details spread that sees him thrusting his tongue into and grabbing at a naked woman, all Tom Ford-like. Who is that girl? Isn’t that just prostitution? What’s that? We have a lot to learn about the way the world works? OK, fair enough.)
The song, “Time For Miracles,” is a bombastic ode to living for the longshot, and a moving tribute to any of us who could hold out that a small commuter plane will be waiting for us at a still-intact Santa Monica Airport even as everything else seems to be sinking headlong into the Pacific. It’s a virtual lock for a Best Understated Lyrics award at the Apocalyptic Grammys in March. Feel it:

Completely agree that if the world ends I'd like Adam Lambert to sing me to the other side! My last dying thought would be along the lines of, "that boy sure can sing his face off". Not a bad way to go...

this is the way the world ends
this is the way the world ends
this is the way the world ends
not with a bang but a screeching Daughtry-like ballad

Oh yes, Winchester and I's like Jabba the Hut to be the last thing I see!

Well, dammit, I'm supposed to be cooler than this. How did Adam Lambert actually make me like an homage to the great power ballads featured in what is no doubt going to be the cheesiest apocolypse flick this side of The Day After Tomorrow? There is some freaky voodoo in that voice, and I may hate myself a little for it, but I gotta confess that I love this song.

A power ballad from a power bottom.
