Modern Family Feud: Julie Bowen vs. Sofía 'The Chola Barbie' Vergara
Each week on Modern Family, Sofía Vergara and Julie Bowen’s characters bump heads in their unconventional stepmother-stepdaughter relationship. And in a candid segment on Chelsea Lately last night, Julie Bowen suggested that the discord extends off-camera, all because of another Chelsea Lately segment in which the “Cholo Barbie” could not remember Bowen’s name. Movieline reviews the clash, and recounts each hilarious burn by Bowen, after the jump.
It all started back on October 6, when Vergara visited Chelsea Lately to promote Modern Family. During the interview (video below), Handler remarked on the Colombian bombshell’s thick accent, inciting this exchange:
Vergara: You’re so jealous of my accent! You’re like Julie Roland, the girl that works in my series.
Handler: What’s her name?
Vergara: (sheepish) Julie Roland?
Handler: No, that’s not her name. Julie Bowen is her name.
Vergera: I was tricking you. I was tricking you to see if you — Listen, I work with her 24 hours a day, how would I not know her name?
Handler: Exactly, exactly. We would be fools to think that.
Bowen was apparently tuned into E! that night because she recalled Vergera’s slam, and a few others, during her own Chelsea Lately segment last night. Debuting her spot-on Vergara impression, Bowen proceeded to lay into her co-star with material so solid that she almost upstaged the host.
Asked why Vergara could have possibly forgotten her name, Bowen retorted: “I have never had the chance to fly Sofia private and give her jewelry, so my name has no resonance for her.”
Egged on by Handler (“It’s a shame she’s so stupid”), Bowen recounted an interaction the two had shortly after Bowen gave birth to twins:
“After [the birth], I had the loose flesh thing and [Vergara] was like, ‘That’s disgusting.’ And I said, ‘Well, what am I supposed to do?’ And she said, ‘At home, they put you in a girdle right after you give birth. Your mother and your auntie are there and they just zip you in.’ So, she thinks I’m disgusting and can’t remember my name.”
Your move, Vergara. And you should probably rethink your rape jokes.

Oh please! these Julie Bowen woman took it way too personal. She spent her 10 minutes bashing Sofia just because she forgot her last name. Ha! as if you haven't forgotten a professor's last name or coworker for that matter.

Are we sure this is for real? I mean, do expect me to believe this Chelsea Handler is the host of a talk show? On TELEVISION?

Yeah, you're right, Lulu, Julie kind of took it too far. "Chola Barbie"? That's a bit of a stereotype and insulting, particularly since Vergara is from Columbia - and also not in the least bit "thuggish" as the word implies. Also, implying Vergara has sugar daddies? This is all kinds of wrong for me.

She is really a hater I understand why though since Sofia is like ten times better looking but yeah it comes off a super racist and what did Chelsea mean by it makes "people like us look smarter"?.

I really did not get the impression that Bowen was actually mad at Sofia since towards the end of the clip she's talking about them being out to dinner together. I think she was kidding her on purpose, knowing full well she'd see it.

Julie and Sofia are funny and gorgeous. Calm down, people. Everyone is just having fun. "Modern Family" is the best comedy on TV.

OMG... I absolutely love their show Modern Family. Dysfunction at it's finest. And Chelsea is stupid (in a good way). First of all, Sofia started it with pretending that her brains were in her big boobs and forgetting her co-star's name. And Julie was funny, slightly stereotypical and awkward, but funny nonetheless! It was a great interview and I would not have changed my channel. Late night TV at it's finest. I'm sure they will kiss and make up when the ratings start to dive someday!

No, no, Julie Bowen is clearly a dumb *****. Sofia innocently mispronounced her name, Julie crossed the line and then some. She is pathetic, and she is obviously jealous. Her saying it was a joke doesn't make things better. It was distasteful and rude, and frankly it was really racist. "Cholo Barbie" as if her "Crack ***** Craker Barbie" is really any better. I've been a fan of Sofia for about 14 years, this Julie Bowen really made herself look stupid, and now when I see the show, as I do, I will only watch her in disgust, for she is ugly in the inside as well as the outside. Sofia has class and she can forgive her plenty, but to me she is a nasty ignorant *****. And Chelsea, is 2 faced too, I like her and all, but she was kind of a ***** too.
