Feuds
2009 may not have been good for much, but it was definitely all-surpassing when it came to celebrity feuds. Whether it was Jamie Foxx vs. Miley Cyrus, Seth Rogen vs. Entourage creator Doug Ellin, or Kiefer Sutherland’s head vs. Jack McCullough, it seemed that everywhere you looked, someone was using his power, fame, and influence to take down someone else’s. Can 2010 compare? It can, if Kevin Smith has something to say about it — and he does, about Neil Patrick Harris.
Things started innocently enough as several of Smith’s Twitter followers asked him to lend support to Neil Patrick Harris, who was on a crusade to win AfterElton.com’s Man of the Decade contest. However, Smith revealed that he is far from an NPH fan — in fact, the jean-shorted auteur still remembers this 2008 exchange Harris had with Ain’t it Cool to promote the Harold & Kumar sequel:
Neil Patrick Harris: They were smart for actually hiring two actors that were actual actors playing parts, instead of hiring two sort of dudes that were those guys. They didn’t hire like Jason Mewes and the other dude… Silent Bob… What is that movie Jay and Silent Bob, like what’s Jay’s name?
Quint: Jason Mewes, you were right.
Neil Patrick Harris: He was this drugged out mess of a guy that was his friend and so he just cast him in the movie and filmed him doing crazy shit.
“I mean, why say something like that?” Smith tweeted. “S’not true OR respectful of a fellow performer. Dude essentially said Mewes isn’t an actor. Wow…It’s a snobby, reductive diss.” The director has continued to defend Mewes and lay into Harris over the last twelve hours of nonstop Twittering, writing that Harris’s accusation “is not only untrue, it minimizes Mewes’ contributions as AN ACTOR. It’s a narrow-minded, ignorantly reductive sentiment, patched together from quasi-facts that aren’t even related. It’s akin to me knowing NPH is gay & knowing he’s on [How I Met Your Mother], and then somehow coming to the conclusion that his process must include a dick in his mouth right before each take… & THEN EXPRESSING THAT SAME BAFFLING IGNORANCE IN AN INTERVIEW.”
Might Smith’s last-minute lobbying sway votes from Harris, or will the Jay & Silent Bob director’s influence fail to dent Harris’s shiny, internet-beloved exterior? Even Smith seems saddened by his incipient feud, tweeting one addendum: “P.S.? Big DOOGIE fan.” In war, there are no winners.
UPDATED: Harris responds!
UPDATE 2: Smith gives his approval of the apology, accidentally types “right” instead of “write.”

I dunno, those 1.5 million Smith followers thankful for the break in wife-ass-eating commentary are probably feeling like winners right about now.

Ugh, he needs to knock this off. When his daughter comes home in tears from being taunted by kids who know all about her mom's rectal bleeding, he'll have no one else to blame.

Don't get your jorts in a wad, Kev.

Who the H**ll are these people?
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 3:37 AM
Seriously, you don't know who they are?
Does "Doogie Houser" ring a bell??
Posted 04 Jan 2010, 11:27 AM
Good reply from NPH. Quick and mature. Smith as always comes across as an emotionally retarded sex-obsessed homophobe.

Re: homophobe.
Agreed since: Kevin Smith thanks a catholic god in the end credits even before he thanks his mom and pop. And a majority of those catholics with their wicked secrets tend to be anti-gay.
Also, one word: Gigli. Besides, boys from New Jersey tend to be morons (see Jersey Shore - MTV)
However...the guy has a misfit modern cult following. I like Jason Mewes. He proves marijuana doesn't interfere with some working skills, esp the ad-libing kinds.

Gigli wasn't Kevin Smith. You're thinking Jersey Girl.
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 4:01 AM
The dipshits from "Jersey Shore" aren't even FROM New Jersey. They're all Long Island/Staten Island Guido's "down the shore." People from New Jersey aren't anything like what you see on that show. Also, all the other people they interact with aren't from the JERZ either, they're all down in Seaside (a s-hole of a town, by the way) for the summer, causing problems with the locals, who don't want to be bothered by their crap.
While I recently unfollowed Kevin due to him constantly talking about sex with his wife, I've met him before, and he's a really cool guy. He's much more intelligent than you'd obviously give him credit for. Does he write and produce crude movies? Yes. Is that his audience? Yes.
So...jog on.

Homophobe really? Anyone who listens to Kevin Smith (including gay men, like myself) knows this is not true. To those people you come off as an immature reactionary who doesn't know what they are talking about. NPH made an ignorant comment completely akin to Smith's analogy. I'm glad he got put in his place.

Doogie (Dookie) was right to apologize but should have left the criticism to the critics-- who consequently haven't said Kevin Smith was a shit except for gigli and Jason Mewes wasn't even in that fiasco.
Jason Mewes. So cool he was even in a cartoon.
Kevin Smith. So cooler he was in the same cartoon.

cant we all just get along
Posted 04 Jan 2010, 12:54 PM
I should-da figured that we'd get started up with the Christ-a-phobic comments in the mix. Anytime there is a homosexual involved, it becomes an exercise in "bash-the-religious person" to give assistance to the homosexual. I'm sure NPH will gladly take the assistance from whomever he can get it. You should be proud.

These Twitter-fueled feuds just do not work for me. How pathetic is it that you can roll out of bed and direct a lackey to fire off a tersely-worded missive under your name for your acolytes in the food court to pour over on their SideKicks. Not exactly the same as a good ole' gunfight with iron and hot lead, between Men.
"You have offended me! I demand a Tweet-duel! Thumbs, at 20 paces!"

You guys do realize that Kevin Smith funded and produced a movie about gay guys in rural America? Just saying.
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 3:30 AM
Who cares about what problems Mr Mews had. We all have problems,I just think home town boys with an idea can produce something that has made my life wonderful.
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 3:59 AM
Actually, Kevin's brother is gay & one of his best friends is gay. He's the farthest from anti-gay & homophobe that you'll find. Additionally, he didn't do Gigli. He did Jersey Girl that had Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in it - big difference -- huge. If you're going to bash a dude, at least get your facts straight.

NPH's talent is wasted on the lame show HIMYM
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 5:55 AM
Is Jason Mewes an "actor"? I don't know... does being in a movie or two make you an actor or is studying the art of acting as well as working as a performer in a movie make you an actor? I'm going to go with the more professional route.
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 6:05 AM
how can there be any hate between the two for very long? they share the same middle name!
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 6:20 AM
Jason Mewes is supposedly into much worse things than weed... just sayin...
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 6:21 AM
Wow, this is making sense to me now.

Following up on how anti-gay Kevin Smith is, perhaps none of the authors of the homophobe comments have seen Chasing Amy?
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 9:14 AM
This is so dumb. Actors arguing over pointless, meaningless nothing.
Posted 06 Jan 2010, 6:16 PM
Kevin Smith is similar to a guy I knew in high school...
Neil Patrick Harris is similar to a guy I knew in high school...
Jason Mewes is similar to a guy I knew in high school...
Thus their popularity.

The whole thing is just SO GAY!!
Posted 19 Jan 2010, 10:54 PM
kevin is only making homophobic remarks because neil patrick harris dissed his anthology like that! We all say shit we don't mean!
Jay acts gay in some parts in Clerks, Clerks II and Jay and Silent Bob strikes back. So I don't think that makes kevin homophobic if one of his main characters has some gay traits
