What's On
Youth is a drag in tonight’s programming lineup. Jenna Elfman finds herself competing with a younger woman, Kell on Earth’s Kelly Cutrone’s twee staffer starts to crumble beneath the pressure of Fashion Week, and Life Unexpected’s resilient heroine earns a heavy sentence from the principal. Should that be all too much to bear, Whitney Houston wears a cute outfit and runs away from an airplane, if that’s your thing.
Accidentally on Purpose [CBS, 8:30 PM]
Billie (Jenna Elfman) attends Zack’s (Jon Foster) high school reunion even though she’s not invited. This leads to trouble, as Billie feels she must compete with Zack’s ravishing ex. Class reunion episodes are usually a formula for gold, though I’m not sure A. on P. can top a line like, “Suck it, you whittling IHOP monkeys.” I’m still optimistic!
Life Unexpected [CW, 9 PM]
Cate (Shiri Appleby) speaks to the principal on behalf of Lux (Brittany Robertson), who gets suspended. As you can imagine, that interference causes more harm than good. Furthermore, the episode is called “Bong Intercepted,” which is the last football pun we need to tie up that manly, manly Super Bowl.
Kell on Earth [Bravo, 10 PM]
Fashion industry workhorse Kelly Cutrone nails a presentation for a new client, and Stephanie begins to buckle under the pressure of Fashion Week. Kell on Earth is a little like if The Rachel Zoe Project’s marquee star was replaced by Project Runway’s season two contestant Zulema Griffin. Workplace stress is always abetted with the boss’s version of the line, “I don’t care if you cry and cut, but you better cry and cut.” In other words: Don’t get your tears on the contracts, mangy interns — we have work to do.
The Bodyguard [AMC, 8 PM]
So, alright, The Bodyguard isn’t quite a cinematic hallmark, but it is legendary in another respect: It boasts the highest-selling soundtrack of all time. I wish it would boast actual chemistry between stars Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, but that’s secondary to the most triumphant Dolly Parton cover ever. Pretty impressive, really… minus the fact that the Dolly original is better, of course.
