In a swank Santa Monica hotel overlooking the Pacific Ocean this weekend, Miley Cyrus spoke to reporters about her upcoming film, The Last Song — the latest romantic weepie from best-selling author Nicholas Sparks, and the first for which he also wrote the screenplay. Also a first for Sparks: Song was conceived and specifically written for Cyrus, who was looking for a project to help her break out of Hannah Montanadom and graduate to more mature roles.
“It’s interesting to leave my security blanket behind. It was such a huge deal in so many kids’ lives,” Cyrus said about the upcoming Hannah Montana finale. But as for revisiting the character in another film, she made it clear where she stands. “[Hannah’s] wig is,” she whistles, “out. One will be in a museum, and one will be… burned, or something.”
I admitted to having developed a guilty pleasure addiction to her Twitter feed, and went into Miley tweet withdrawal when she abruptly pulled the plug in October with a message reading, “FYI Liam doesn’t have a Twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason.” (Liam, or course, refers to her Song co-star and now boyfriend, handsome Aussie discovery Liam Hemsworth.) So what, exactly, was that reason?
“I was kind of, like, tired of telling everyone what I’m doing,” Cyrus told Movieline. “I hate when I read things and celebrities are complaining like, ‘I have no personal life.’ I’m like, well that’s because you write everything that you’re doing.”
“So I was that person who was like, ‘I’m so sad. I have no real, normal life, everyone knows what I’m doing.’ And I’m like, well that’s my own fault because I’m telling everyone,” Cyrus said. “And then I’d tweet, ‘I’m here,’ and I’d wonder why a thousand fans are outside the restaurant. Well, hello, I just told them. So I’m just, like, kind of thinking doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Everything I’m saying is not really going with what I’m putting on the internet.
Asked if the change has been for the better, Cyrus took a moment to consider, then said, “I’m a lot less on my phone, I’m a little bit more social. I have a lot more real friends as opposed to friends who are on the internet who I’m talking to — which is like not cool, not safe, not fun and most likely not real. I think everything is just better when you’re not so wrapped up in [the internet].”
“I just think it’s kind of lame,” Cyrus continued. “I feel like I hang out with my friends and they’re so busy taking pictures of what they’re doing and putting them on Facebook that they’re not really enjoying what they’re doing. You’re going to look back and have a million pictures, but you’re not going to be in any of them. Because you’re not having fun, you’re too busy clicking away. So I think just enjoy the moment you’re in, and stop telling people about it. Just enjoy it.”
Does she realize she sounds like a mom when she says stuff like that?
“Yes, I do,” she answered, smiling. “I’m telling kids, don’t go on the internet, it’s dangerous, it’s not fun, it wastes your life, and you should be outside playing sports or something.”

I AGREE!!!! I FEEL THE SAME WAY!!!
I HOPE HER CELEBRIT INFLUENCE HELPS OTHERS SEE RASONS AS TO WHY THEY NEED TO BOYCOTT TWITTER.

True! I love you Miley <3
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 1:36 PM
she says like ALOT!!!! how lame, im pretty sure there are better adjectives out there then "like" and as for the last part?
“I’m telling kids, don’t go on the internet, it’s dangerous, it’s not fun, it wastes your life, and you should be outside playing sports or something.”

shes just a kid herself...she really needs to stop telling all her little minions what to do.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:15 PM
miley is right...i agree with all the things she said.
Quote: This chick is wack..she cant be telling us what to do..her life is messed up any ways..so she should shut up about twitter/internet!
Why cant she tell her opinion? Everyone has an opionion and they may publish it. And those who "follow" her opinion may do that..She doesnt command everyone to delete their twitter....it`s just an advice.
Never had twitter and never will have one...Its stupid. Put the time that you are putting in twitter, myspace, facebook etc in your live..Play a sport or gain knowledge about something you like.

WTf is ur problem "myopinion" she has a point. How do you think kids get kidnapped so easily? a lowlife criminal with nothing to do , goes on line finds out where u are and waits for the right moment, learns everything about you, ur pattern ( what time u go home, when ur parents come home, where you are on sats at 8 at night etc.)
then they attack when you dont know. Its dangourous and stupid to give info, if your on www.whirled.com and someone asks for ur asl, report them , if they give their asl reoprt them. and thats not just for whirled!

You realize she's turning 18 this year right? That's hardly a kid. Besides, she's not telling anyone what to do. It was an interview. She gave her opinion. Calm down.

This chick is wack..she cant be telling us what to do..her life is messed up any ways..so she should shut up about twitter/internet!
Posted 17 Mar 2010, 2:06 PM
Yo Moms, it seems to me that if Mileys' making a comment appears to be telling you what to do then it must be "you" that is wack. Kudos for this young lady for telling the truth and tell it "like it is". Too many kids
rely on tweeter, facebook and my space for their life experiences which are many times just plain made up.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 1:52 PM
Like OMG that interview was like totally deep, or some junk.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 1:53 PM
STFU!!!!!!!!! MILEY IS STUPID!
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 1:59 PM
THAT IS SOO TRUE! and i agreein everything with her, because she's a celeb and everything :D
Miley is my role model and what she just said is TOTALLY TRUE! even though i still have a twitter, BTW follow me! :) (JohapGirl)but that's because I'm not famous, yet, i agree with her, once again, and if anyone has a problem.... DEAL WITH IT!
P.S: to Miley haters:
GET A LIFE! YOURE JUST JELOUS OF HER! STOP BASHING HER! AND F*** YOU!

Movieline bouncer? Isn't there an "all caps and you're out" clause anywhere? omgwtf?
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 2:38 PM
You I find it funny when a celeb uses the old "I dont use twitter because I want privacy or I dont wont everyone know where I am and what I am doing" excuse to why they dont use twitter when the the solution is simle dont tweet every little thing. I think every celebrity need to have a Verified Twitter account even if they never use it or rarely do to prevent Imposters from pretending to be them. Plus twitter could be useful to quickly respond to rumors or misquotes in the press to take the truth to their fans

I've been on the internet since the 1980s. My met my partner 15 years ago (it's our Anniversasy today!) on the Internet in a chat room. Most of my friends have come from the internet, although it was very different proper to 2000. I use to meet 90% of the people I emailed or chat with, today I'm lucky if I meet 2%.
Having said that, Miley should have known better than to tweet her location in real time. Even I don't do that. I once tweeted I was going to be in PIcadilly Circus after a film if anyone wanted to meet me. I walked out into a crowd. Oops. I'd earlier tweeted the film I was seeing. I'm a LOT more cautious now.
Twitter has done great things for me and my life. It's connected me directly with people I admire or aspire to live up to. Even Kirstie Alley has taken an interst in me calling on my Live show (something created as a result of Twitter) and even tweeting that we'll make a film together this year. WOAH! I'm still spining!
It's really no different to standing in the middle of the room at a party and announcing your name to the crowd. We all want to socialize right?
I do agree that the Internet on a whole has become a place for 'friendships' that are limited to text on a screen and you never really know who is behind those keypresses.
The solution however is simple - go out and meet people! Just as you would ordinarly. In public places. You don't go home with the person you met at the bar on the first meet, so don't do it on the Net either, but get out and make the Internet a part of your life for a broader 1st degree of contacts. Make an effort - or use it as an excuse - to TRAVEL!
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 2:47 PM
why are you miley haters commenting on someone you supposedly "hate". thats pointless, wasting your time on someone you care nothing about then posting mean comments. really? thats just stupid.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 2:49 PM
I like the concept of what she's saying but I still don't respect Miley as a person and I still don't find her intelligent. Nice try, though.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:03 PM
i kinda agree with her.....
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:12 PM
Wait, I'm reading this on the internet... I can't imagine how it could be dangerous---
(a train jumps the tracks and smashes through house)
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:12 PM
I agree with her, but at the same time she's dumb. You can tweet about what you are doing, but don't name the place where you are at. That's why you had a bunch of fans waiting outside the restaurant. If you don't like being follow or anything, well just don't TWEET! about it!. Is that simple ladies & gentleman. I sometimes think Twitter is kind of pointless. I doubt it anyone ever reads what I post or at least one person does. The only reason I have it, it just gives me something to rant about or just put something random basically. I kind of wish I had something better to do than being in the computer though.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:23 PM
"I kind of wish I had something better to do than being in the computer though."
That's what Tron said! ZING!
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:19 PM
To be honest it sounds a little like she is being branded, a lot like other 'child stars' Like Britney. we all know how that turned out. Anyway, twitter was an insite into who she really is, and now she's been left it. My money is on her management and Disney can't afford for her to have a personality or showing any real life appeal incase she messes up again and has more underwear pictures out. To be frank, she sounds like a bit of a snob. She is bashing twitter and facebook and the users but at the same time used it for a long time. It's pathetic. Her life is hardly a real life. She needs to stop acting like she is a grown up and start acting like a person. We don't want the next generation of American and worldwide kids growing up to be little miley clones do we? Twitter doesn't ruin your life, only when you become an addict. And if you can become an addict to something like twitter that easily, well, let's see what happens in the future. Stop patronising people, stop acting like you're a grown up or mature, and just act like a decent roll model. Criminy.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 11:31 AM
Wow, I actually agree to what you are saying. You make a very good point!
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 8:28 PM
Laura agrees with Lauren. All is right with the Universe.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:23 PM
Okay, I actually agree with Cyrus on this, for once. It's kind of boring to say what you're doing unless it's important. The only reason I have a Twitter is to promote my modeling and my website, that's it. I used to say what I was doing on Twitter, now I'll just stick to MySpace for something that personal. And even then, I will still not do it a lot, like Cyrus did.
One thing I did not like though, is when kept on repeating the word "like". Honestly, there are more words than "like" in a dictionary. Look it, Hun.
By the way, chick that says Cyrus is your Role Model, what are you? Ten? Have you seen the crazy stuff she's done? For instance, when she went to Disney Land, sang, only to get dumped by water. Did you know what happened afterward? Turns out, she wasn't even wearing a bra. And she was pretty much fully-sized in her chest area when that happened.
Instead of picking her to look up to, choose someone who won't do stupid stuff. Like Selena Gomez, or Demi Lovato. Someone with a little more dignity.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 3:40 PM
If you feel the same way why are you on the computer reading everything about the life of the others??
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 4:29 PM
I truly believe it's her opinion if she likes Twitter or not. However, if she dislikes it so much then why does she post from Emily Osment's twitter sometimes? I just feel if you are going to openly dislike something you need to dislike it all the time, not just when it suits you. It gives conflicting opinions.
Posted 15 Mar 2010, 6:51 PM
Some of these comments are hilarious...which is exactly why I love the internet! It's the best place to people-watch!
P.S. Anyone who considers Miley Cyrus a role model is either under the age of ten and needs some serious parental guidance in their life or is just crazy.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 8:45 AM
Good decision. I see people airing their dirty laundry on facebook a lot. They also say I'm at the bank or I'm shopping etc. I think you made a good, sound choice.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 8:47 AM
I find it funny when a girl of 16 thinks she knows everything. She has a lot of growing up to do. It would be best if she left the whole hollywood scene, go home, and grow.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 10:14 AM
Hmm. Looks like Twitter made their entire staff of overseas call center workers post a message here.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 10:19 AM
miley is right! i'm glad she said that because do you know that 1 out of 3 teens die from obesity? guess what half of them are probably doing? nothing except TV and internet! Thank you miley!
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 5:06 PM
. . . I disagree.
First of all, I, for the most part, sit around and watch movies and am on the internet all day, (mind you I'm a film nut, but still), eat nothing but junk and am considered underweight. And no, I don't have any medical problems pertaining to being underweight (worms, bulimia, etc).
I don't doubt that teens die from obesity, but I'm fairly certain that the internet is not the cause of it.
I think the biggest problem is not that we don't exercise or even what we eat, it's that most people eat "emotionally." If people could just start eating when their hungry and not when they're sad or angry or whatever.
As for the statement of Miss Cyrus, I honestly think that, yes the internet can be dangerous, but, if you don't use it then what? It's about knowing HOW to use it, and not just being stupid about it like many people (celebrities included) do. However, it is about having fun and meeting new people and LEARNING things. the Internet is one giant learning experience.
Well, that's my take on it. . .
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 11:28 AM
I think you are absouluetlly right Miley. As your personality your going to grow up to be a very good mother. I am not saying I envy you at all..I actually don't like you one bit, but once when I read what you said I think you've got a good point.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 12:10 PM
Agreed Miley needs a wider vocabulary and a smack to the face of common sense. Kids go on the internet for many different reasons and I dont think the "danger" of it scares them. Kids today want to show themselves off. Getting stalked, kidnapped, or worse doesn't mean anything untill it actualy happens.
Posted 16 Mar 2010, 4:32 PM
Wel... That was incredibly bitchy of her, especially for all of the people who followed her on Twitter, like the tweens.
I dislike Miley, but even I was disheartened when she left Twitter. Some of my other Twit-friends were so discouraged, and after reading this, they will probably never buy another CD of hers again. I can understand the needing more social time off of the internet, but she basically just snubbed all of her loyal fans by saying that they're "not real friends". They care. They support her. Why do something like that to the people who build you up? There's no excuse for that. Don't try to defend that kind of behavior, especially if you can't spell.
Congratulations, Miss Cyrus. You've just stepped on all the little people on your way up the fame ladder. When you fall off, I hope they all ignore you as you descend.

Gah, stop hating on Miley, she's just a kid. So what if she expresses her opinions... Not many people can now-a-days without being persecuted for it. If you wanna Twitter, then Twitter, if you don't want to, then don't! Simple as that, so don't hate her because she left it. That's pretty lame...
By the way, alot is a lot. Two words.
Posted 18 Mar 2010, 11:31 AM
I am a mother of 2 and 7 year old girl and a 5 year old boy. I agree wih EVERYTHING Miley has said about the internet. I have all kinds of fiends who let there kids get online, but believ me I hear about it when their kids see or read someting on there they shouldn't. Miley is 100% right about this. If you ask me all of these people that are tlakign about her are just jealous because her word means something to alot of people. I wasn't going to let my daughter get into watch Hannah Montana, but I did and I am very happy I did. This girl is a GREAT romdel to kids as long as she is Hannah Montana too. I am not to sure if she is going to stop being Hannah Montana, but I really hope she doesn't. All I have to say is i you LIKE have a problem with her, then stop reading things that posted about her.

Keep going Miley!

twitter is fine not for some but others do like it miley is a child star for childern not adults she has talent for kids for kids not adults twitter is for adults not kids not kids so who cares
Posted 19 Mar 2010, 3:35 PM
I think she simply needs to shove it. She's almost 18 years old and talks like some wanna-be popular middle schooler. It's utterly pathetic. What the hell are we trying to teach our kids? How to talk like fools?
My real problem though was her "real friends". Like people online aren't real people. I mean, am I the only one who found this offensive?
People online have feelings too and yes, some people pretend to be others online but they do that in real life too. Your best friend could only be pretending to be your friend just too be famous like you. The entire world could be a lie, you get over it. With that said, it doesn't make the people online any less real.
As I said, people online are real people and just because we don't hang out with you in "real life" doesn't mean we're not your "real" friends. Seriously, can I just say, what the fuck?
You know, now I have a question. If your online friends aren't "real" then wouldn't that mean that your friend on the phone aren't "real" either?
"“I’m telling kids, don’t go on the internet, it’s dangerous, it’s not fun, it wastes your life, and you should be outside playing sports or something.”"
Encase you people missed it, she clearly says "I'M TELLING KIDS". She's trying to tell us what to do. Did you all MISS this?
Posted 20 Mar 2010, 4:56 AM
Heee heee heee heeeeee.
"Like"!
Posted 21 Mar 2010, 10:38 AM
Good thing shes talking some sense, thats why I deleted my FaceBook account.
Posted 22 Mar 2010, 12:37 AM
Ok I agree, to a point, with what she said. We should be doing other things with our lives. I know there's more important stuff that I, for one could be doing right now but, I just so happen to be on the internet. ;] lol
That being said, I think there's a difference between "casually" being on the internet, and being an addict. And from this, I take it she's an "addict" which is bad considering THIS is what she got addicted to, so what other addictions will we read about in the future?
Also, can I just say, SNOB? Like what the hell? They're not "real friends"? Where would you be without the "not real friends"? They're your FANS, and you just stepped on all of them, after they supported you through all your ridiculous performances and slutty pictures, after you made a complete fool of yourself time and again.
Kudos to you Miley. Your SO mature.
“[Hannah’s] wig is out. One will be in a museum, and one will be… burned, or something.”
Its nice to know she shows such little appreciation for the things that brought her fame.
Just remember that, Miley Cyrus pshycophants.

Miley I totally agree with you on that matter but about all these people who keep posting all these rude and viscious things about you need to stop and Im not sure about everyone else but I know all those pics of you are just you that everyone is turning into bad publicity for u are just pics of you having fun and being a nomal teenager and I guess some of theses people just don't get that ps just ignore all of that stuff and just keep having fun like any normal teenager would
