True Grit Trailer: Jeff Bridges Can't Do Nothing For You, Son

Jeff Bridges' Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn is a nasty fella. In the opening scene of this extended theatrical trailer for True Grit, when asked how many people he's shot in his life, the grizzled U.S. Marshal answers, "Shot? Or killed?" Whoa. I mean, when I'm asked that question, I can immediately say, "Zero, sir," on both accounts.

In a trailer that's significantly different than the teaser we've already seen, Cogburn is recruited by a young girl named Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) to track down her father's killer, Tom Chaney (played by Josh Brolin, thus fulfilling the "Josh Brolin Must be in Every Movie Referendum" that was part of the repeal of the Jude Law Act of 2004). Along for the ride, because Chaney is so dangerous, is La Boeuf (no relation to Shia), portrayed here by Matt Damon.

I'm wasn't the biggest fan, initially, of the Coens remaking the film John Wayne earned his only Oscar for (yes, I realize they're the Coen Brothers, but don't forget they also remade The Ladykillers), but this looks fantastic. Plus, I just have to know why Jeff Bridges is wearing a bear head while riding a horse. Or maybe that actually is a bear riding a horse. Either way...

Verdict: Retributively Sold!
