Buzz Break: Pink is the New Blue

Lost Leak: lgfp1997+matthew-fox-as-dr-jack-shephard-cult-tv-series-lost-poster.jpgDarkUFO’s got the first four minutes and change from Tuesday’s Lost premiere, if you dare spoil yourself in the home stretch. The footage was sent in a flash drive to a couple hundred lucky sweepstakes winners who got roughly five minutes of exclusive cuddle time with the clip before all of us on the internet could access it. I’m trying to stay strong…just a few more days! [DarkUFO]

VIDEO: Pee-wee Says the Secret Word is 'iPad'

peeweeipad.jpgThe ageless Paul Reubens has resurrected Pee-wee’s Playhouse as a live stage show at LA’s Club Nokia, but for you nostalgia heads who don’t live on the left coast, enjoy this timely video Reubens just put out where he, Conky, Magic Screen and the gang ponder Apple’s new iPad. (Conky makes some great points!) If it seems a little incongruous to hear the old gang talking about such a modern product, let me give you a little warning: In the stage show, Miss Yvonne comes bearing Bumpits. Here’s the clip:

Does Sundance Sensation Catfish Have a Truth Problem?

At the end of yesterday’s well-received screening of Catfish — easily the most buzzed-about documentary at this year’s Sundance Film Festival — one man raised his hand for the Q&A.

“This may be a minority opinion,” he said. “I think you guys did a great job, but I don’t think it’s a documentary.”

A murmur went through the crowd and the filmmakers became angry and defensive, but more on that later. In the meantime: Brother, I’m right there with you. There’s something fishy about Catfish, and I’m not just talking about the title.

Wall Street 2 Teaser: Money for Nothing, LaBeoufs for Free

michaelwallstreet.jpgThe teaser trailer was released today for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (oh, they’re really going with that title?) and you can watch it over on IMDb. What will you find there? An incongruously rockin’ soundtrack, Carey Mulligan, an 80’s cell phone joke, Shia LaBeouf riding a motorcycle (apparently, they’re not just for Megan Fox to lean suggestively over anymore!), and an assumption that the younger generation knows who the hell Gordon Gekko is. That said…it kind of looks like fun trash? If greed is good, then what’s greedily resuscitating a dated, dormant property? I dunno, I’m already programming the Wall Street 2/Basic Instinct 2 double feature.

VERDICT: Interested. [IMDb]

Twelve for $2: ChaceCrawfordshort.jpgJoel Schumacher’s Chace Crawford starrer Twelve just got picked up in advance of its closing night screening at Sundance. The distributor will be Hannover House (???), a company that has previously released titles like Blonde and Blonder, Teen Yoga, and Zombie Farm. The deal was made for $2 million, but I wouldn’t get too excited just yet, PC. [Variety]

Sundance 2010

In May of 2002, handsome football player Pat Tillman turned down the fame and fortune of the NFL to enlist in the Army and fight in Afghanistan. “We might want to keep an eye on him,” then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld wrote to a colleague, and indeed, when Tillman was killed almost two years later, the administration advanced the narrative that Tillman had been shot while bravely defending his troops from the Taliban.

Only, that’s not what happened. Tillman had actually been killed by his own troops in a case of friendly fire, and the Army’s cover-up was so outrageous (Tillman’s body armor, uniform and vest were burned) and all-encompassing (as leaked memos from the highest levels of government would show), that Amir Bar-Lev’s Sundance documentary The Tillman Story can’t help but compel. Movieline spoke to Bar-Lev this week about the film’s deleted moments, the influence of the Greatful Dead on his style, and his outrage that a key conspirator is an important part of President Obama’s administration.

I Second That Emoticon: miley-cyrus-the-last-song.jpgOMG! Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore have signed on to the English language remake of LOL (a big French hit comedy, FWIW). Moore will play a divorcee mother (FYI) whose daughter, upon being dumped, sets her sights on her ex’s best friend (PWNED!). Anyway. BRB. [Variety]

Casting

John_C_Reilly-1.jpgTen years ago, director Lynne Ramsay burst onto the scene with 1999’s Ratcatcher, followed it up with Morvern Collar in 2002, and hasn’t made another film since. The talented filmmaker was attached to The Lovely Bones for a while before Peter Jackson took over, and since then, she’s intended to make a tough story that touches on some of the same beats: We Need to Talk About Kevin, an adaptation of the Lionel Shriver novel about an estranged husband and wife dealing with their son Kevin, who’s committed a mass murder.
